CatiBovin experience at Rentschler farm | Persistence | Transit phase

Since the introduction of CatiBovin, Michael Rentschler has observed that the cows are better able to maintain the performance level achieved over several weeks.

CatiBovin in practice: stable performance, healthy cows

On Michael Rentschler's farm in Schömberg, Baden-Württemberg, targeted prophylaxis is an essential part of managing his almost 100 Brown Swiss cows. PerformaNat products such as CalciumBoluses, EnergieBoluses and PansenFit-Boluses have been used since 2023.

Since 2025, the concept has also been supplemented by CatiBovin.

From the farm's point of view, the particular benefit lies in the more stable development of the animals around calving and the sustained performance during lactation.

Stable milk yield with consistently high milk components

Since the introduction of CatiBovin, Michael Rentschler has observed that the cows are better able to maintain the performance level achieved over several weeks. Particularly striking in his view is the improved persistency during lactation.

At the same time, the milk components remained stable at an already high level. With 3.8% protein and 4.6% fat, the initial values in the herd were already very good. It was crucial for the farm that these values remain constant even under high production.

The cows maintained the high level of milk yield for weeks. The milk components were already very good anyway and the cows were able to maintain this.

Higher feed intake as a basis for performance and stability

Another observed effect relates to feed intake. According to Michael Rentschler, the animals eat better, which positively affects overall stability and performance development. A high and constant dry matter intake is an essential prerequisite, especially for high-yielding dairy cows, in order to meet their needs in the first weeks of lactation.

Practical observations on the farm show that improved appetite can affect not only milk yield but also overall lactation dynamics. From a farm perspective, this manifests as stable performance and greater persistency.

Relief in the transition period

On the farm, particular attention is given to the phase around calving. Michael Rentschler reports that the dry cows get through calving better and enter lactation healthier. This means that the focus is primarily on the transition period, in which metabolism, feed intake and the start of production are closely linked.

A good start to lactation is crucial for the cow's further health and performance. If animals take in feed quickly after calving, remain stable and start producing early, this creates an important basis for animal health and profitability in the further course of lactation.

Practical experience with relevance for herd management

For Michael Rentschler, CatiBovin is now a further building block within a prophylactic overall concept. Based on his practical experience, its use contributes to

  • improved feed intake,
  • increased persistency of milk yield,
  • high milk components,
  • and targeted support for cows in the transition period.

Experience from the Rentschler farm shows that a well thought-out prophylaxis concept is not only expressed in individual measures, but above all in the more stable development of the animals during critical phases. CatiBovin is perceived as a practical supplement when it comes to supporting cows through calving and lactation in a stable and resilient manner.
