Göß GbR experience: PerformaNat CalciumBolus against milk fever

The Göß family dairy farm is located in the Ansbach district and has been in the family for several generations. After a major fire in 2012, in which all the farm buildings were destroyed, we built a new, modern dairy cattle barn with a GEA milking robot and a calf barn.

Today, around 200 dairy cows and their offspring enjoy a happy life here. Our herd consists of about 95% Holstein Friesian cows. The yield is 10,600 kg with 4.04% fat and 3.51% protein.

When did you start using the PerformaNat CalciumBolus? And why did you start using it?

We have been using the calcium bolus on our farm for about a year. At that time, we had major problems with dairy cows that had milk fever or didn't enter lactation properly after calving. After an interesting discussion with our consultant at PerformaNat, we decided to test the bolus for the time being.

What convinced you to use the bolus regularly?

After a detailed analysis of the problem, we made some changes to the feeding during the transition period. Initially, we therefore only tested the bolus on a few animals - we were too concerned that it would not have the desired effect. But we have seen good results. There were significantly fewer problems with downer cows and the animals usually entered lactation better.

The bolus is now used as standard for every cow from the second lactation onwards. Infusion treatments with calcium have been significantly reduced since then. And if one is not able to stand up anymore, she is quickly fit again after an infusion.

We also liked the concept of the bolus. On the one hand, the bolus contains phytogenic substances that positively affect calcium absorption. Secondly, the animals have a permanent, low-dose source of calcium available for a few days per day.

With the PerformaNat CalciumBolus, the animals are simply well supplied.

Why would you recommend the PerformaNat CalciumBolus?

Entering the bolus with the bolus applicator is straightforward and quick. In addition, all four administrations are not always required to ensure the animals' health. The animals are simply well cared for.
