My name is Peter Plank, I am 27 years old and I have been working on my parents' family farm since my training as a agronomist. Together with my mother, my father and an apprentice, we keep around 150 dairy cows and their offspring and operate a biogas plant. The cows are milked by two milking robots. We only keep Simmental cattle that produce 8,050 kg of milk. The farm tries to manage all external and internal work itself. This only works if everything runs smoothly in the barn, especially with the freshly calved animals.
How did you become aware of PerformaNat's solutions?
We had some downer cows in the summer, which were not producing milk well, so I realised that something had to change. Although it was only a matter of individual animals, the extra work and time involved were enormous. I then learned about Boluses because my former classmates had had good experiences with it. After a short time, I made an appointment with the PerformaNat team, received some convincing advice and tried out the PerformaNat bolus.
What are your experiences with the CalciumBolus from PerformaNat?
The bolus has many advantages: it is relatively easy to administer, which saves time, tastes good to cows and shows its effect quickly. Since we have been using the bolus on our farm, we have had only one downer cow for a short time. After calving, the cows are much more energetic and they start eating and drinking immediately. Accordingly, they also produce more milk.
In addition, it is usually sufficient for our cows to administer two boluses immediately after calving and two more 12 hours later, from the second lactation onwards. As the boluses take very little time to administer the workload is kept to an absolute minimum.
It is even more pleasing to see that the cows are doing better when the calcium bolus is administered.
