Optimising herd performance through the targeted use of PerformaNat Boluses
Looking at the milking carousel, Philipp Weisz reports on the development of his dairy herd in recent years. He has been the herd manager at Agrarunternehmen Lommatzscher Pflege eG, which has 950 dairy cows, for many years and attaches great importance to the health of his animals, especially during the sensitive period around calving. He supplements his well-thought-out feeding system with PerformaNat products. By using CalciumBolus, EnergyBolus, and PansenFit Bolus he has sustainably improved the health and productivity of his herd.
CalciumBolus: Effective milk fever prophylaxis
Originally, the farm used a different product to prevent milk fever. The switch to PerformaNat CalciumBolus was made due to its faster onset of action. "We found that the bolus no longer needs these 12 hours and works quickly in the rumen," explains Philipp Weisz. As standard, cows from the third lactation onwards receive two boluses at calving and a further two boluses 12 hours after calving. In the event of particular challenges, such as heat stress, the dosage was adjusted: "If it was particularly hot and we had some downer cows due to the heat, we gave each cow two additional doses. " This flexible approach has proven its worth and is adjusted as required.
EnergyBolus: prophylaxis against ketosis
To prevent metabolic diseases such as ketosis, Mr Weisz uses the EnergyBolus prophylactically. "We really had problems with ketosis and took it once to try it out. Since then, we've been giving it prophylactically from the second lactation onwards," he reports. The boluses support the energy metabolism and help to relieve the liver. If BHB levels are elevated, infusions or drenches are also used, with the energy bolus playing an important supporting role. "If the cow is really worthy of an infusion, then simply add the EnergyBolus as additional support," adds Mr Weisz. Read more here.
PansenFit Bolus: Support for rumen function
The PansenFit Bolus is used specifically for digestive disorders. Mr. Weisz appreciates the ease of use and effectiveness: "I give two boluses once and the next day the cow rushes back up and ruminates at a normal level again, so I often don't need to give it again the second day." Compared to drenching, he sees advantages for animal welfare:
'Drenching also always puts strain on the oesophagus. We have had good experiences with the PansenFit bolus.
Through targeted use of PerformaNat Boluses, the agricultural company Lommatzscher Pflege eG significantly improved the health and performance of its dairy cows. The products provide flexible and effective support during critical phases, positively affecting the entire herd.
